Talk:I Am A Ring

Curious decisions[edit]

The synths are interesting, and I don't mind the double-tracked Flansburgh, but think of how much more involving this song might have been if Linnell had sung backup while playing his accordion. Might have channeled "When It Rains It Snows" and kept my interest more strongly through the track. As lovely as the melody might be, it just floats by--contrast with "Daylight", a similar but much more potent track. --MisterMe (talk) 11:15, 3 December 2018 (EST)

I actually really liked the synth and the backwards, but I also have a thing for long, slow, droning songs, so reminding me of "Blue Ocean Floor" by Justin Timberlake is a strong plus in my book. I also really think keeping it confined to just Flans and synth makes the song all the more emotional. The song is positively sad, and the lyrics really match it. It's a break-up song because they're no longer actually helping each other. Next in Line (talk) 15:45, 3 December 2018 (EST)
I'm not familiar with his work outside of the radio hits, so it was interesting to hear him in such a low-key setting. This might be one of the only times a TMBG song has ever been compared--favorably or unfavorably--to a Justin Timberlake song! :-P --MisterMe (talk) 14:01, 4 December 2018 (EST)

funny anecdote[edit]

I was talking to my friend (we were in line for something) and I started singing, "I am a ring that turns your finger green". She overheard me and goes, "You mean this one?" and she takes off the silver ring she's wearing and there's a green splotch right where it was on her finger. I was speechless. --You&Me!!
