Talk:Homunculus

Think this should be added to the "Possible Tracks" list over on the New Album page or is that feasable? -Oreosarecrack

I found a larger picture of the album art. Should we use it, or keep the Myspace sized one? [1] -Ill Masta

Nice job, we should use it. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 00:41, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Apparently, this image is fairly well-known. An image search for 'homunculous' brings up a lot of similar images. -J2

Hmm, the mp3 is tagged as track 5 of 15. Don't know if that means anything special, but I just felt like sharing. And as a side, great song. ~ magbatz

I noticed that as well, and found it a bit intriguing. :) -CapitalQtalk ♪ 03:03, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

God, that definition from the wikipedia isn't very good. We need a better one. I'm going to go to the reading room and see if I can find a better one. ~Christina Miller, Nov 2006

Am I the only one who has noticed that the version on DialASong.com and the version from the podcast are completely different? Should there be separate pages for them? Akagi 14:06, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

I listened...not side by side mind you, but i didn't hear much difference. Can you give examples of what parts are completely different? --Duke33 16:15, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Just off the top of my head, the DialASong version displays these differences: the beginning sounds noticably forced, there seems to be an extended ending (unless of course the next song on the podcast overlapped that), and the chorus or whatever is more... yell-y. Not sure exactly how to explain that last one, but I listened to them both again, they're definitely very different. Akagi 16:59, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I haven't listenend to it for probably over a month, but I also remember that for one version, in the "headliner blues/crying... tiny fake tears/cryyyy" part of it, you can more easily hear that Flans' voice is doubled up. So they probably just tinkered a little with the mixing before they put it in its own mp3. ~ magbatz 19:02, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Image[edit]

There have been a couple of attempts to remove the image on this page, and CapitalQ and myself talked it over, and we decided that we think we should keep the image. The image was posted by the band to their Myspace page for the song. It's not like it is bad fan-art or anything like that...the band chose to use it themselves. I can understand anyone who feels that it is in bad taste, but if you feel so, then simply do not visit the page. --Duke33 21:48, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, it's me, My Evil Twin's Twin. The reason that I wasn't logged in when I edited is because the wiki doesn't let me, I think because I have an apostrophe in my username. But anyway, I am against having the picture on the Homunculus page. I think it's interesting to see a picture where the sizes of the body parts correspond to their sensitivity, but what about all the kids who might have become fans from TMBG's kids' stuff, like No! or Here Come The ABCs, and are becoming fans of the more adult stuff. Is it going to be appropriate for them to see the picture? It was TMBG's decision to post the picture on Myspace, but Myspace has some inappropriate stuff scattered around. I also understand your recommendation not to visit the page, but what if a picture like that was on one of my favorite songs? They Might Be Giants aren't a purely adult band; the Parental Advisory stamp doesn't appear on any of Their music. Kids and families are good listeners too. --My Evil Twin's Twin (7-13-07)

How about this? -CapitalQtalk ♪ 01:37, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
My vote is to keep the original uncensored image; it's an official image used on Myspace. I think it should stay. And I agree that if you don't want to see it, don't look. Though I really don't see why on earth it would be considered offensive or anything, I mean, medical books used in school health classes even show genitalia, for educational purposes! And this image here is also an educational image. I see no difference. Akagi 01:39, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Oops, I didn't know there was a whole talk page going into the censored image before I reverted the change. I do disagree with the covering-up though, for the same basic reason as Duke33 and CapitalQ-- if it's the band's chosen artwork for the song, and TMBW is the website whose mission is to classify and document everything They Might Be Giants, then it's obvious that we should keep it. I know there is a squeamish faction of Their fanbase, but a) this image in a way represents a part of TMBG the band, and no fan should be able to select and reject or even change any part of They Might Be Giants that the fans do not support completely; and b) it really isn't all that offensive-- I mean, it's a drawing of a penis, and one that has no intention of even trying to look anatomically correct (as far as my understanding of a homunculus figure goes). So that's my reason for changing it back, and sorry for doing it before giving my explanation. ~ magbatz 18:17, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

instrumentation?[edit]

Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody knew exactly what stringed instrument is being played in this track. It sounds like a bass with lots of fuzz on it, but some of the chords make it sound more like a guitar. Could this be Flans' famous baritone guitar or am I correct in thinking it's a bass?
