  • Clifford Irving - (born 1930) American writer from New York who, in 1971, wrote an "authorized autobiography" of the eccentric tycoon, Howard Hughes. The "authorization" to write such a novel from Hughes, as well as the "interviews" Irving conducted with Hughes, were all an elaborate hoax, partially made possible through the use of clever handwriting forgeries. At the same time, Irving was also involved in the Orson Welles film, "F for Fake," a film about art forgery.
