Interpretations Talk:They'll Need A Crane

From This Might Be A Wiki

I'm intrigued that my favorite line in the whole song is a line that nobody else seems to have interpreted the same way I did. (The "I'm just tired and I don't love you anymore...etc...baby wait, I didn't mean to say nightmare" bridge.) My take on it is that he unthinkingly slips "I don't love you anymore" into the middle of his general complaining, she gets upset, and he misinterprets her being upset and thinks he offended her by talking about "nightmare people". It's a classic example of two people who have forgotten how to communicate with each other, and the man is so out of touch with her feelings that he doesn't even realize how he's hurt her and apologizes for the wrong thing. Such brilliant, subtextual writing. *happy sigh*
