Interpretations Talk:Am I Awake?

From This Might Be A Wiki

I think that every theory about the song is at least partially correct, but everyone is taking the song too literally. Yes, the singer may be tired from work, or just tired in general, but to me it sounds like the singer is seriously depressed with the redundancy of his life.

"When I get through this day, can someone tell me how, and how much longer now am I awake?" Its not entirely that the singer is asking for how much longer until he can sleep again, but his real question, if you look past the words, is "How much longer must I live." His consciousness being used metaphorically for life in general.

The bit about the coffee is just emphasizing that everything is the same day after day and he's gotten to a point where he runs on "auto-pilot" and doesn't even think about what he's doing anymore. "When I get through this part, will the next one be the same?" "Is it that time again? Wasnt it already then?" Every event of every day for this man blends together in his mind and he cannot distinguish one day from another anymore.

"How much longer now am I awake?" When will it all end?
