It's time to play the abacus. An abacus showing two looks like this:

---------------
|*** **| **|
|***** | **|
etc.

Add 3:

---------------
| *****| **|
|***** | **|

Carry:

---------------
|***** |* *|
|***** | **|

Look, only 1 bead left on the center! 2+3 R 1

Boy Bands[edit]

This song is perhaps a satire of the "boy band" sound. Flans' corny rap is very Donny Wahlberg. The title (and chorus) seem to relate to boy bands frequent use/misuse of numbers and letters, such as Boyz II Men, NSync, and LFO. It reminds me of that skit from somewhere that lampooned boy bands with the song "Calculus (U + me = us)". I can't remember where that skit was from. Drat!

-It was from "Josie and the Pussycats", the film. - tonemangoldfarb
-:-Maybe it was played in "Josie and the Pussycats" (I haven't seen it) but the song is originally from a made for Mtv movie called 2gether. Calculus was the hit song of the band in the movie. The song got regular play on not just Mtv but also radio stations across the country. The soundtrack and the movie did well enough to warrent a second cd release from the fictional band (many songs off which also got regular airplay) and a short lived tv series.
Yeah, I think this is a parody of that, too. Except the corny rap was done by Linnell. --Overjoy 12:10, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Listen again. -TDK 17:33, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
I bet my life the rap was done by Linnell. --Overjoy 23:19, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
You are correct - I asked Flans via the tumblr. [1] - Rev. Syung Myung Me 00:32, 19 January 2013 (EST)
I've been listening to them for years, and I still can't tell them apart at times. Maybe I'm a bad fan, but I maintain that they have the uncanny knack for sounding alike from time to time. --Ms Fernandez, 24 Dec 2007 (Merry Christmas!)
From time to time? When I first starting listening to Them I thought that only Linnell sang and Flansburgh just played the guitar.
