Interpretations:Nevada

From This Might Be A Wiki

the lyrics are pretty simple to interpret. Nevada being the dream of every gal and every boy's pal is referencing the fact that prostitution is legal in most of Nevada. The rest of the song reflects the chaos of Las Vegas, Nevada's largest city. The marching band represents order, but as the song goes on, the sound of the band fades and is drowned out by the crowds. John Linnell Hates Nevada[edit]

Okay, the title is a bit of an overstatement, but as a Nevadan, I have several things to note: - Linnell mispronounces the state name. Now, it wasn't the early 2000s until mass media started making a fuss about the pronunciation, but it still bothers me nonetheless. - This also perpetuates the stereotype of Vegas as a flashy gambling anarchy land. For the vast metropolitan area Vegas has become, this is simply not true. (Although I will admit that major growth occurred starting from around 1995, so Vegas was much smaller at the time the song was written.) I will concede that this song would rank better in my book with the state name pronounced correctly.

He also mispronounces Oregon, but in the context "Oregon is bad" that might be redundant. --ColorOfInfinity (talk) 00:48, 9 May 2023 (EDT)

i feel like this song’s kind of about humanity i guess ? the lyrics itself kind of speak to it but with the liner notes saying how humans have lived in that area for 20 millennia and also the remaining 7 and a half minutes of the song just being sounds of people makes me think its about how we’ve always been there… and how so much has happened there… not sure though… makes me a little emotional Glassyhouse (talk) 01:21, 22 January 2024 (EST)fisher
