Interpretation 1[edit]

Very obviously, it's about James K. Polk. Awesome interpretation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.194.109.193 (talkcontribs) 04:17, 28 May 2005

Interpretation 2[edit]

I'd like to point out that "Napoleon of the stump" means that James Polk conquered the election from his porch --- drworm818

"The Stump" is what metaphorically what you're standing on when you're making a stump speech. So in other words, his campaign just slaughtered everybody else. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 00:09, 27 Mar 2006 (CST)

Interpretation 3[edit]

The song mentions he was stern and intimidating. That's an understatement. 24.215.166.135 00:02, 15 Jun 2006 (MDT)

The cycle of life and death[edit]

I dunno guys, I think maybe in this song James K. Polk is really an elaborate metaphor for the cycle of life and death... like if you think about it, "The Napoleon of the Stump", death comes and conquers (hence Napoleon) leaving you dead like a stump. The clues are all there! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.95.66.181 (talkcontribs) 23:51, 5 May 2008

Jeopardy! help[edit]

This song and "Meet James Ensor" have been helpful to me several times in beating my wife at Jeopardy! (No, I don't really beat my wife!) —Preceding unsigned comment added by RealOldFred (talkcontribs) 01:21, 1 September 2009

Interpretation 6[edit]

One of the best constructed lines ever:
